Faculty Profiles

Assistant Professor of Practice Morgan Ames teaches Behind the Data: Humans and Values (W231). Her research interests include the ideological origins of inequality in the technology world, with a focus on utopianism, childhood, and learning. Professor Ames is the Associate Director of Research for the Center for Science, Technology, Medicine, and Society (CTSP). She is also the MIDS Gender Equity Advisor and is committed to supporting equity and inclusion, especially as it relates to gender and intersectional diversity.

Assistant Professor of Practice Daniel Aranki teaches Privacy Engineering (W233). His research interests include artificial intelligence, machine learning, and their applications in the fields of healthcare, privacy and information disclosure, health tele-monitoring, and cybersecurity. Professor Aranki is also the Executive Director of the Berkeley Telemonitoring Project.

Assistant Professor of Practice Michael Rivera teaches Research Design and Applications for Data and Analysis (W201). His research interests include immigration policy, political representation, race & ethnic politics, and American voter behavior, especially in how campaigns and non-partisan groups can use data science to increase turnout among minority and low propensity voters. Professor Rivera is also the current MIDS Equity and Inclusion Advisor and helps ensure that students experience an inclusive classroom environment.


Community Panel

Caleb Albornoz is a current MICS student working as a Full-Stack Software Engineer at Wipro Limited. He graduated from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas with a B.Sc. in computer science and mathematics.

Lauren Chambers is a current Ph.D. student focusing on public interest technology and data & tech for sociopolitical advocacy. She is also an affiliate of the Harvard Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society for the 2021-22 academic year. Lauren graduated from Yale University with a B.S. in astrophysics and African American studies and was previously a Technology for Liberty Consultant for American Civil Liberties Union of Massachusetts.

Prathyusha Charagondla is a current MIDS student focusing on data science, information architecture, and software development. She is currently working as a Site Reliability Engineer at Adobe and as a Graduate Student Instructor for Statistics for Data Science and Research Design and Applications for Data and Analysis. Prathyusha graduated with a bachelors degree in data science and cognitive science from UC Berkeley.

Ornella Tchoumie is a second-year MIMS student focusing on information policy, product management, and project management. She is also the President for the Information Management Student Association. Ornella graduated from Saint Mary's College of California with a B.A. in integral liberal arts and worked as a product Manager at Credit Karma over the summer.
