The UC Berkeley School of Information will be participating in the UC Berkeley Graduate Diversity Admissions Fair 2020. This will be a wonderful opportunity to speak to a member of the admissions team to discuss the I School's degree programs.

3:00 - 3:55 pm PT: Welcome to Cal! An introduction to UC Berkeley and diversity at Cal, featuring Dr. Lisa García Badola, Dr. Denzil A. Steete, Staff of OGD and Graduate Diversity and Community Fellows.

4:00 - 5:00 pm: I School Presentation

Panelists

Deirdre K. Mulligan is a professor in the School of Information at UC Berkeley, a faculty director of the Berkeley Center for Law & Technology, a co-organizer of the Algorithmic Fairness & Opacity Working Group, an affiliated faculty on the Hewlett funded Berkeley Center for Long-Term Cybersecurity, and a faculty advisor to the Center for Technology, Society & Policy. Mulligan’s research explores legal and technical means of protecting values such as privacy, freedom of expression, and fairness in emerging technical systems.

Noura Howell, Ph.D. ’20, focused on biosensing, human computer interaction, and materiality of information during the degree. Her work combines color-changing fabrics in clothing with biosignals display in social contexts. She is interested in the areas of materiality of information representation, designing affective systems, and intimacy and HCI. Currently, Noura is an Assistant Professor at North Carolina State University.

Carissa Yao is a second-year MIMS student focusing on human computer interaction. She received a B.A. in Russian History and Economics from Bryn Mawr College. She is a graduate fellow at Data Peer Consulting, DCDSS. Carissa is passionate about using technologies to help people live better lives and create equitable, user-centered products in a fair, inclusive society.
